Michael Jordan Attends Hawaii-Michigan Game as Honorary Captain
Former Bulls legend Michael Jordan took in some college football during the opening weekend of the season.
Last year, the Michigan Wolverines became the first college football program to be fully-sponsored by Michael Jordan and Nike’s Jordan Brand.
Jordan made the announcement through a short video on social media and welcomed the Michigan program to the Jordan family.
On Saturday, for Michigan’s season-opening game against Hawaii in Ann Arbor, Jordan attended the game with a couple familiar faces: former New York Yankees great Derek Jeter and former NFL cornerback Charles Woodson. Former NFL linebacker and Michigan star LaMarr Woodley joined the crew (and wore Jumpman gear like Woodson did during his playing days).

During the broadcast of the game, Jordan was shown in the crowd taking in the action. (The curious thing here is if he’s starting a sunglasses line with Jordan Brand and hasn’t told us yet.)

In terms of building their brand with the new MJ-inspired look, Michigan football is certainly back on the map. (They even had Jumpman-inspired Snapchat filters for Saturday’s game.)

It’s not breaking news, but Jordan’s brand continues to grow into one of the most popular in the entire world. It’s also cool to see Jordan — who hasn’t played in the NBA in 13 years — still have that A-list star power wherever he goes. When the game’s greatest player is in the house, people notice.
On a Bulls-related note: This season will mark the 20th anniversary of the 1995-96 Bulls team that went 72-10 and won the franchise’s fourth NBA title against the Seattle Supersonics. There’s a good chance Jordan could be making a high-profile appearance or two in Chicago at some point this season with Scottie Pippen (a current Bulls ambassador) and the rest of that roster.
More from Pippen Ain't Easy
