Mark Jackson: Warriors deserve as many All-Stars as possible
Mark Jackson is not only a former player who appeared in 17 NBA seasons and was a one-time All-Star, but he's also the man who coached the Golden State Warriors for three years before Steve Kerr took over last season.
With the NBA All-Star Voting 2016 presented by Verizon kicking off this week, we caught up with Jackson to get his take on these Warriors. Considering they're the defending champions and have beaten everyone in their path on the way to a perfect 23-0 start, we wanted to know just how many Golden State players he believes should be named to this year's All-Star roster.
“When you just look at the season that they’re having, it’s deserved that they should have as many as possible,” Jackson told FOX Sports. “I would say (they should have) three guys in the All-Star game, Klay Thompson, Steph Curry and Draymond Green.”
The Atlanta Hawks had four players named to last year’s squad, and while they did win 60 games during the regular season without what most would consider a true superstar, they did so in a watered-down Eastern Conference and weren't nearly as dominant as this Warriors squad.
Only Curry is a lock to be voted in as a starter, and while it's at least possible that Thompson could get voted in as well, it's unlikely given the star power available to fans at the guard position.
That means it would be up to the Western Conference coaches to name Green (and possibly Thompson) as reserves, which would seem to be an easy decision. As for a potential fourth player, Andre Iguodala comes to mind as having the best chance, but it feels like it might be a bit of a stretch to see him sneak in.
