Kristaps Porzingis is eating like a darn monster

Last week, the New York Post reported that Knicks rookie and 2015 fourth overall pick Kristaps Porzingis had gained 11 pounds of muscle since the end of July. Now, we're finding out just how he pulled that off.

From ESPN's Ian Begley:

Let's put 5,000 calories in perspective, shall we?

Many authorities suggest somewhere between 2,500 and 2,700 calories a day for your average male (2,200 for your average female). So, Porzingis is doubling that. Doubling.

He's having yogurt? OK, I buy it. But how much? Your average Yoplait (non-Lite, of course) is about 170 calories. He'd have to slurp through 30 yogurts a day just to get to his 5,000 calories.

Though I'm sure he's packing on those pounds in a far healthier fashion, 5,000 calories is the equivalent of nine Big Macs a day. It's 125 individual Oreo cookies.

I'm both grossed out and hungry, now. I think this is a sign I need to lose weight.

Porzingis is lifting weights twice a day between on-court workouts and eating at least 5,000 calories per day, which was a goal set by a Knicks nutritionist.

Asked what he has been eating, Porzingis replied, “Everything.”

“The basic thing that she told me was don’t ever have an empty stomach. If you eat after two hours you have to eat again. [Eat] yogurt, something in your stomach. So that’s what I’ve been following and I think it’s pretty successful. I'm gaining some weight,” Porzingis said.
