Jerami Grant Working Hard in Training Camp
Philadelphia 76ers‘ forward Jerami Grant has been working hard to prove himself in training camp this season, possibly hinting at an increased role.
Jerami Grant is one of the players that seems like, as time goes on and the team keeps improving, may not be on the Philadelphia 76ers. Still, he is one of those glue players of the team right now that’s holding things together. If he doesn’t improve, there’s reason to believe he will be moved off of the team for an upgrade in the forward position.
On the other hand, if he improves his game this season and makes considerable leaps to the next levels, he could be an important role player moving forward, and may be in line for a new contract and a raise if he plays right. So far in training camp, he looks determined to improve himself, and to be the best player on the court.
From a few of Keith Pompey’s Friday Instagram videos, we can tell that Grant is working hard.
In this video, we see Grant use his great length as a defensive tool as we did much of last season. This time, however, it was against a Ben Simmons passer, and Simmons has been credited as one of the best young passers in the league already.
Simmons rolls off of a screen for Sergio Rodriguez, and tries to dump a pass in for Robert Covington in the key, but Grant is on top of it.
In this video, Simmons fails yet again to convert an offensive set into two points (but that’s another conversation) and Grant goes down the court on an offensive fast break, gets a nice pass from T.J. McConnell, and goes in for the dunk.
These are just two clips that are less than 20 second long, but they really give us a look into the tone in training camp. While some players look like they’re treating it as just another camp, Grant is really taking things to the next level.
Going into the season like that is good for the game, good for the team, and certainly good for Grant, who looks like he’s ready to improve his game and add some intensity. I would love to see him bulk up and become a dominant frontcourt player.
Although that will almost certainly get him removed from the Sixers at some point, it would be nice to see him add some sort of offensive success to his game.
