Iverson says he's 'basketball genius', would love 76ers' exec position

Former Philadelphia 76ers head coach Larry Brown reportedly has lobbied the club to hire Allen Iverson as an assistant general manager. And Iverson is all for it, going as far to say that he's a "basketball genius."

"I may not know everything about physical talent or anything like that, but I have a sharp mind when it comes to that look, being able to look into somebody's eyes to tell if they are going to be in the foxhole with you tonight or if they are not," Iverson told the Philadelphia Inquirer on Thursday night. "To me, I am a basketball genius and I really believe that, so at any capacity I could help this franchise, that is what I am going to do, whatever they ask me to do."

Few could argue with Iverson's tenacity as a player. He led the league in scoring four times despite being generously listed at 6-feet, 165 pounds during his career. His quickness and dribbling left many defenders helpless.

But his shot selection was questionable at best. He shot 42.5 percent for his career, sometimes opting to take on two or even three defenders than passing. Granted, early in his career he was the primary offensive option and led the 76ers to the 2001 NBA Finals, where they lost 4-1.

But despite all his own-court accolades, Iverson said being part of the Sixers' front office would hold special meaning.

"That would be one of the top honors for me," Iverson said. "That would be one of the biggest blessings."
