Hawks assigned rookie C Walter 'Edy' Tavares to D-League

ATLANTA (AP) The Atlanta Hawks have sent rookie center Walter ''Edy'' Tavares to the Austin Spurs of the NBA Development League.

The move was made under the flexible assignment rule, giving the 7-foot-3 Tavares a chance to get some much-needed playing time.

Tavares has appeared in only two of Atlanta's first nine games, for a total of 2 minutes. He has been on the inactive list for six games.

The move was announced Wednesday by coach Mike Budenholzer before the Hawks hosted the New Orleans Pelicans.
