Former Magic guard Jameer Nelson finishes fifth in Best Teammate voting
It's not enough for a young team to have a veteran presence in the locker room. In order for that leadership to make much of a difference, it has to be the right veteran presence. And before his departure from Orlando, the Magic had just such a teammate in point guard Jameer Nelson.
So say the players throughout the NBA, anyway, who voted on the third annual Twyman-Stokes Teammate Award, which honors the league's best teammate. And when the votes were tallied, Nelson finished fifth in the running. San Antonio Spurs center Tim Duncan won the award, which has previously gone to Shane Battier and Chauncey Billups.
Players are not permitted to vote for their own teammates.
Even though his days in Orlando are long over, Nelson's influence can still be felt in the locker room. And it seems he has a league-wide reputation for being a good guy to be around.
