Everyone is ruled out for the Nets' preseason game against the Pistons

The Nets are scheduled to play the Pistons in a preseason game Thursday evening. Note the language there: They're scheduled to play the Pistons. That doesn't mean all of them are doing it.

Brooklyn announced Thursday morning that nine—yes, nine—Nets aren't playing against Detroit tonight: Jarrett Jack, Markel Brown, Joe Johnson, Sergey Karasev, Thomas Robinson, Willie Reed, Bojan Bogdanovic, Chris McCullough and Andrea Bargnani.

Wow, that's a bunch. But with the Nets' official roster still at 20, 11 players is more than a serviceable amount. And as Devin Kharpertian points out at The Brooklyn Game points out, the younger Nets have a chance to earn some playing time—or even a roster spot:

Let the battle for the final point guard spot begin!

According to Tim Bontemps of the New York Post, the Nets will trot out a starting five of Shane Larkin, Wayne Ellington, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Thaddeus Young, and Brook Lopez. Those five are the only five active players remaining on guaranteed contracts, which means the bench is entirely made up of players fighting to make the team on camp deals: Ryan Boatright, Chris Daniels, Justin Harper, Dahntay Jones, Quincy Miller, and Donald Sloan.
