The Nets don't have many prospects moving forward, even if they did do a nice job during last year's draft. Heading into the draft without their own first-round pick means they'll be selecting 29th overall, using the Atlanta Hawks' selection to find young talent.
Who's one guy Brooklyn could be looking at with that pick? Former Syracuse forward Chris McCullough, who missed most of his sole season at 'Cuse after tearing his ACL. Charles Curtis from NJ.com has more:
The Brooklyn Nets will have a much lower first-rounder than expected with the Atlanta Hawks exercising their right to switch picks thanks to the Joe Johnson trade. They'll choose 29th and after the NBA Draft Lottery, there were plenty of updated mocks to look at. Here are a few:
Chris Mannix, Sports Illustrated: Syracuse forward Chris McCullough
"An ACL injury in January crippled McCullough's stock. Pre-injury, McCullough was an athletic, shot-blocking forward with a sound shooting stroke. If he lives up to his potential, he could be a steal here." Ed Isaacson, Rotoworld (via Yahoo): UNLV guard Rashad Vaughn
"Brooklyn is another team that can use help at almost every position, and while I think they could really use some help at point guard, they are tied up with Deron Williams and Jarrett Jack for the next few seasons. They can certainly use some more shooting, and Vaughn could develop in a couple of years into a consistent NBA three-point threat. Another option may be to draft and stash young Brazilian point guard George de Paula, but I think getting either of these players at 29 would be pretty good for the Nets."
