Clippers' Blake Griffin to have No. 23 jersey honored by Oklahoma

Los Angeles Clippers All-Star power forward and former Oklahoma Sooner star Blake Griffin will have his No. 23 jersey honored on March 1 during the team's game against Baylor, according to The Daily Oklahoman.

Griffin will be the fifth former Sooner to have his jersey raised to the Lloyd Noble Center rafters, joining Mookie Blaylock (10), Wayman Tisdale (23), Alvan Adams (33), and Stacey King (33).

"I am proud and truly honored to be part of a long and storied Sooner history," Griffin said in a release. "My time at OU will always hold a special place in my heart and I am so grateful to the fans and the university for all of their support throughout my career."

Griffin averaged 22.7 points (on 65.4 percent shooting), 14.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game as a sophomore, earning the consensus 2008-09 National Player of the Year award. He put up double-doubles in 30 of the 35 games he played.

Overall, he averaged 18.8 points (on 62.2 percent shooting), 11.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 68 games with the Sooners.

He was drafted No. 1 overall by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2009 NBA Draft, and has since made five All-Star teams and been a three-time All-NBA second-team selection. Griffin has career averages of 21.6 points (on 52.2 percent shooting), 9.6 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 405 games with the Clippers.

Griffin will be honored on Oklahoma's Senior Night.
