The Boston Celtics are in desperate need for a defensive man in the middle, and it appears they'll try to acquire at least one in this year's draft. On Wednesday, they worked out six prospects and three of them are known for their ability to block shots (not including the 6'11" Bobby Portis).

LSU's Jordan Mickey, Cal's David Kravish and Syracuse's Rakeem Christmas were the three in attendance, and if any make their mark at the next level it will be because they continue to alter shots in the paint.

Here's Celtics.com's Taylor C. Snow with more:

"Mickey swatted a nation-high 3.6 blocks per game, which matched the Celtics’ league-worst team total last season at the NBA level. He believes he could positively influence a team in need of his defensive abilities...At 6-foot-8, Mickey is quite undersized for a blocker of his ability, but Director of Player Personnel Austin Ainge compared him to numerous players who have overcome their lack of height to make an impact in the paint. He noted that 'a lot of times height is overrated.'"

Boston has four picks in this year's draft, and these three prospects would likely be targeted in the second round (where the Celtics have the 33rd and 45th picks). Those selections are generally unlikely to pan out, so it's smart for the Celtics to use them targeting an area of need.
