Carlisle: 'We have to get more consistent defensively'

After winning 50 games last season while finishing just 20th in defensive efficiency last season, the path for the Mavericks to improve upon last year's performance is fairly obvious.

While there are multiple player personnel decisions to make, including the potential re-signing of defensive-minded free agents like Tyson Chandler and Al-Farouq Aminu and the upcoming draft, it sounds like Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle is focused on improving the defense any way he can.

“When you have a leak in the roof, you’ve got to figure out if there’s a bunch of little things contributing to it or if it’s one big thing,” Mavs coach Rick Carlisle said while addressing the team’s defensive deficiencies this season. “Right now, we got a lot of little things that we need to get patched up and that’s what we’ve looked at.

“The biggest thing for us as a team right now is we have to get more consistent defensively. … That’s our goal right now going forward.”
