Brooklyn Nets Weekly Outlook: Week 6

The Brooklyn Nets continue to struggle after dropping all three of their games last week. They have fallen to 4-12 and continue to slide down the standings, only one game better than the worst team in the NBA, the Dallas Mavericks.

The Brooklyn Nets have not been able to get anything going for the second week in a row. They find themselves on a seven game losing streak without any wins in the last two weeks of play. Their losses this week came as more of a surprise because of the teams they were playing.

Two weeks ago, they found themselves playing against all playoff contenders, but this week, they played one legitimate playoff team and then two teams that are struggling with a record below .500.

The Boston Celtics are the only team right now that I could see making the playoffs of the three teams they played last week. Besides that, I don’t know why they struggled so much. Neither the Indiana Pacers or the Sacramento Kings have that much more talent than the Nets, if they even have more talent than them.

This is the first week that I could truly say that scoring was a big issue for the Nets. They only broke the 100-point mark once this week against the Kings. A lack of offensive production is always a problem, but it’s practically the apocalypse for the Nets. They can’t stop anyone on defense so without their offense, they are too vulnerable of a team.

The Nets dropped their first game of the week against the Celtics, 111-92, in a game that they were going to struggle regardless of where they were playing. They played in Indiana in their next game against the Pacers, losing 118-97. The Nets beat the Pacers for their first win of the season, but they didn’t have the same fortune away from their home. They ended their week against the Sacramento Kings in a 122-105 loss, where they competed more than they did all week, but fell short once again.

There is a lot the Nets need to work on, but let’s look at their schedule for this upcoming week.

A Look At This Week’s Games

The Nets’ schedule will be tough this week, at least compared to last week. They will play another three games this week, and two of those games will be against the Milwaukee Bucks. Hopefully, the Nets will start to find their rhythm, but the odds are definitely not in their favor for this week. Here are my predictions for week six of Nets basketball.

Los Angeles Clippers @ Brooklyn Nets

The Clippers absolutely ravaged the Nets by over 30 points in their last meeting in Los Angeles, and this meeting shouldn’t be very different. The Clippers were the first loss on the Nets’ seven-game losing streak and, being as dominant as the Clippers are, should continue it. If the Nets are going to have any chance at all in this game, their offense is going to need to somehow find their rhythm again.

Prediction: Despite their best efforts, the Nets will lose in a blowout loss at home.

Milwaukee Bucks @ Brooklyn Nets

The Nets lost in a two point game to the Bucks in Milwaukee in their last go around, but I believe that the Nets will take this win and snap their losing streak. The Bucks are a struggling offensive team and though they are one of the more dominant defensive teams, they will struggle against a Nets team that will start to get some sort of momentum.

Prediction: Nets will get the best of the Bucks’ defense, and both teams will surpass triple digits in a Nets win.

Brooklyn Nets @ Milwaukee Bucks

The Nets are a team that struggles on the road, and I don’t think that the Bucks will allow the Nets to beat them twice in the same week.

Prediction: Nets drop their second game of the week in a low-scoring game away from home.

Who To Watch For

The Nets need players to step up more than ever if they are going to pull something together. Despite injuries, I still believe the Nets have the depth to succeed.

Player to Watch: Brook Lopez

Brook Lopez has become one of the only players that the Nets can truly rely on up to this point. The team’s success is practically on the shoulders of Lopez and his ability to make big plays. He put up double-digit scoring performances in all of his games last week, though the numbers didn’t quite match what he usually puts up. Lopez needs to put up more points and snag more rebounds in games if the Nets are going to even have a chance at finding their rhythm.

Player That Needs to Step Up: Bojan Bogdanovic

Bojan Bogdanovic offers a lot offensively for the team, but he didn’t quite show that last week. I don’t know how many times that I’ve said it, but I’ll continue to preach it: the Nets need to get the ball into Bogdanovic’s hands so he can make big plays. He’s done it in the past, so they need to keep feeding him. He should have the ball just as much as Lopez in the game. The team needs to give him those chances because no one else on this team will give them a better chance to produce than him besides obviously Lopez.

Players Who Need to Get Back On the Court and Off of the Injury Report: Jeremy Lin and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson

These are two key players for the Nets who have found their way onto the injury report. Lin has done a good job of taking leadership without being on the court, but it would really help if he came back. You obviously don’t want to rush getting back, but the Nets really need these guys back on the court.
