Worley an underrated part of Pirates pitching staff

Gerrit Cole, A.J. Burnett and Francisco Liriano may get the bulk of the attention, but Vance Worley is proving to be a very valuable asset to the Pirates pitching staff.

"Worley … he's gone over and beyond the call of duty," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle told Pirates.com.

Worley has given Hurdle an option in the bullpen and Worley's ability to eat up innings has helped keep the Pirates bullpen in tact for later games.

"After three days down, he makes 41 pitches," Hurdle said, "and kept us away from [Chris] Volstad, who pitched the night before, and from [Jared] Hughes, who had pitched on back-to-back nights. [Worley's] volume of work has been significant."
