Watch Anthony Rizzo pocket the ball immediately after World Series-clinching final out
Nothing came easily in the Chicago Cubs' curse-breaking 8-7 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday night in a wild Game 7 that took an extra inning to decide. After the Indians rallied in the 10th and brought the potential winning run to the plate, Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant raced to a soft chopper from Michael Martinez and fell as he threw over to Anthony Rizzo for the final out with about two steps to spare.
Rizzo then threw his arms up before thinking something like: Hey, I want to keep this ball. So he stuffed it into his back pocket while running to join the mob of jubilant Cubs. Watch:
And here he is later carrying around the ball that will almost surely go to his trophy case if he doesn't gift it to Cooperstown or David Ross. But we get the impression that he's keeping it.
