Scioscia on 2015 Angels: 'I was inspired by these guys'

The Los Angeles Angels' late-season surge fell short last Sunday, when their desperate attempt to make the postseason fell by the wayside at the hands of Cole Hamels and the AL West champion Texas Rangers.

2015 was a wildly erratic year for the Halos, who finished 85-77 after having aspirations of following up their 98-win 2014 campaign with another division crown.

A tough August saw them go 10-19 and fall into the Wild Card hunt, only to come back strong with an 18-9 September that put them right back in the thick of things.

Despite coming up short, manager Mike Scioscia had nothing but positive things to say about his club, as he conveyed to MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez: "They played hard, they played long, and for us to even be talking about a playoff opportunity the last week of the season is everything they did in that room. They were incredible. They left their hearts on the field, and it was an inspiring group. I was inspired by these guys."

This was Scioscia's 16th season managing the Angels, and he announced earlier this week that he will return for 2016

Scioscia's return, coupled with new GM Billy Eppler's tenure and owner Arte Moreno's recent declarations that the club will do 'whatever is needed' in order to return to the postseason would presumably the team up for an eventful offseason of re-shaping.
