San Francisco Giants: Gearrin and Adrianza Re-Sign
The San Francisco Giants have re-signed right-handed relief pitcher Cory Gearrin to a 1 year, $1.05 million deal, according to Jon Heyman of Today’s Knuckleball. They also re-signed Ehire Adrianza to a one year deal.e
Initial reports had him signing with the Milwaukee Brewers instead of the San Francisco Giants, but that turned out to simply be a typo on Twitter.
With all 30 teams letting reporters know about players that will and won’t be tendered contracts, it is understandable to make some mistakes. In an era of fake news and fake Twitter handles, this one was an easy fix.

Gearrin was drafted in the fourth round of the 2007 Amateur draft by the Atlanta Braves and was released in 2014. He signed that off-season with the San Francisco Giants and has been a part of the Giants bullpen for parts of the last two seasons.
As a Giant over 52 innings pitched across two seasons, he has averaged 8.7 K/9 and 3.3 K/BB. He has been mostly used to face right-handed pitching. With right-handed veterans Santiago Casilla and Sergio Romo free agents and George Kontos arbitration eligible, this move allows San Francisco to have some depth in the bullpen.
Other Giants who are eligible for arbitration are George Kontos, Eduardo Nunez, Will Smith, and Conor Gillaspie. All four have had their contracts tendered. The final contract figure is still to be determined
Besides bringing back a right-handed bullpen specialist, it also allows the Giants to have some depth in left field. Also, the Giants really don’t have another shortstop good enough on the 40-man, so Adrianza will stick around for the forseeable future as well.
