It would seem like Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum is a prime candidate to come out of the rotation following the shortest outing of his career on Sunday. Matt Cain and Jake Peavy both looked good in their rehab starts over the weekend and are poised to soon come off the disabled list.

Through his first eight starts of the season, Lincecum had an ERA of 2.08 and looked like the two-time Cy Young winner of old. In his six starts since then he has an 7.00 ERA and has looked more like the pitcher who was demoted to the bullpen last year.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy gave no indication after Sunday’s loss regarding Lincecum’s place in the rotation going forward. Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News quotes the Giants manager:

“We’re looking at everything – who may need a break, and of course, who’s throwing well,” said Bochy, who already exchanged a series of texts with executive vice president Brian Sabean. “You always want to go on merit. We’ll talk about it on the plane … and I’ll have something Tuesday.”

Bochy had previously indicated that the Giants would probably not be going with a six-man rotation. According to Baggarly, Cain is scheduled for one more rehab start, while Peavy has maxed-out his 30-day rehab assignment.
