Rockies' Hundley hitting better than average

Published May. 3, 2015 8:48 p.m. ET

The acquisition of catcher Nick Hundley has been paying off for the Rockies, but perhaps in a surprising way. Although the veteran catcher was mainly supposed to be an upgrade behind the plate over Wilin Rosario, he’s has been a pleasant surprise at the plate. Hundley amassed a .238 average in parts of seven seasons with the Padres and .233 with the Orioles last season. This year he’s hitting .328 in 67 at-bats. It’s not the case that playing at Coors Field has boosted his average. He’s hitting .325 on the road compared to .333 at Coors.
