For the second time this season Rockies pitcher John Axford has been placed on the family medical emergency list. Earlier in the year, the reliever needed time away to care for his snake-bitten son, Jameson Axford. This time the reason isn’t regarding his son, according to Nick Groke of the Denver Post. Rockies manager Walt Weiss said:
"He has some things to take care of at home, some personal things to address.”
Groke writes that Weiss declined to specify a reason, but said that Axford’s son was doing fine.

Unlike when he took his leave in April, Axford is now the team’s closer. Groke notes that the team will use a closer-by-committee in his absence.
