Rangers' Holland might start rehab stint soon

Derek Holland has been out of action for the Texas Rangers nearly all season, as a shoulder issue has limited him to just one inning of work so far in 2015.

Over the weekend, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News passed on some hopeful news regarding Holland's status: he could very well head out on a rehab stint for the Rangers sometime this week, perhaps as soon as Thursday. Grant noted that if Holland were to pitch for Double-A Round Rock on Thursday, he'd likely be on pitch count of 30-40 as the club eases him back into starting pitching mode.

After throwing almost 50 pitches in a simulated game situation on Saturday, Holland said he wanted to be 'more aggressive', but Grant quotes manager Jeff Banister as reiterating the club's need to not rush Holland back to regular duty: “If you do that, you are asking to initiate the injury again. Both the short- and long-term are equally important here. When he decide he is ready, we want him to have done all the things appropriately to pitch at this level.”
