Starting pitcher Brandon Morrow is one step closer to taking the mound for the San Diego Padres again.

Morrow threw a three-inning, 45-pitch simulated game on Monday at Petco Park before the Padres' series opener against the San Francisco Giants.

Marty Caswell of San Diego's Mighty 1090-AM quotes Padres pitching coach Darren Balsley as reporting that Morrow looked "excellent" during the sim game.

Morrow only started five games for the Padres, who acquired him in the offseason, before being placed on the disabled list with inflammation in his right throwing shoulder.
