Nats' Zimmermann hands Blue Jays first shutout of the season

The Toronto Blue Jays' prolific offense averaged over five runs per game heading into Tuesday's contest against the Washington Nationals, but starter Jordan Zimmermann nonetheless held them to a goose egg in a dominant effort.
Zimmermann stretched his outing to a season-high eight innings on Tuesday, allowing no runs and six hits to help the Nationals win the front end of a doubleheader with the Blue Jays.
The 29-year-old right-hander was very efficient in his fifth win of the season, only throwing 105 pitches in his eight innings of work.
"Basically threw the ball over the middle and let them put the ball in play," Zimmermann said of his approach. "Ball's not carrying at all today, so they have to hit it pretty good to hit it out."
Zimmermann is now 5-2 on the season with a 2.88 earned run average and 45 strikeouts.
