It came as little surprise, but Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer was selected to the 2015 National League All-Star team Monday.

His selection to this year's team, which resulted from a players' vote, is the third in his career; yet, he reacted to the news as though it were his first selection.

"It's awesome. It's one of the highest honors in the game to be selected for the All-Star Game," Scherzer said. "This is my third game, and every single one of them means something special."

Scherzer has had a historic first half of the season.

In 16 starts, he's compiled a 9-6 record with a 1.82 ERA, 139 strikeouts, and 19 walks in 118 2/3 innings pitched.
