Nationals 2B Daniel Murphy not responding to treatment for leg injury

Washington Nationals manager Dusty Baker says that he is concerned that second baseman Daniel Murphy is not responding to treatment for his injured leg.

Murphy has not started the past four games, only appearing in the past two games as a pinch-hitter.

Murphy was injured last Saturday after he got up slowly after sliding into second base after a double.  The team has not said what type of injury Murphy has.

"I'm sure the world would like to know [what's wrong with Murphy]," Baker said. "Our trainers are still working on him. They are trying to get to the bottom of it. When you are hurt this late in the season, you don't have a bunch of time to come back. We have some hands working on him."

The Nationals have an nine-game lead over the New York Mets in the National League East.  Their magic number to clinch the division is 2.

Murphy is batting .347, with 25 home runs and 104 RBIs in 141 games this season. He leads the NL in doubles, slugging and OPS, and is second in RBI and batting average.

"Daniel has been carrying us most of the season, so now it's time for some of the other guys to step up during Daniel's absence and not depend on Daniel being here," Baker said.
