MLB commissioner Rob Manfred defends Cubs ace Jake Arrieta against PED rumors

One of the best stories going right now in baseball is the continued dominance of Jake Arreita. The 2015 Cy Young award winner is again off to another scorching hot start in 2016, with a record sitting at 7-0 with a 1.29 ERA.

Of course with Arrieta's success have come the doubters, and the belief that his performance might be ... umm ... enhanced. Granted, Arrieta has never failed a performance-enhancing drug test, but those rumors do persist.

One guy who's tired of hearing them is Commissioner Rob Manfred. He came to the defense of the Cubs' ace at Thursday at baseball's owners meetings, with his comments coming via the Boston Herald:

The comments about Arreita were really part of a larger "state of baseball" address the Commissioner made, and were also part of a larger conversation on PED's in general. After just 10 positive tests over the last three years, we've already got eight this year.

Manfred believes that they may be due to improved science behind the testing.

Overall, Manfred touched on a number of important issues within baseball.

It's definitely worth reading through his full list of comments here.
