Melvin Upton Jr. robs Orioles of homer after crushing a 465-footer
The San Diego Padres have not been a great team this season and those struggles continued on Tuesday night when they were beat by the Baltimore Orioles, 11-7. Melvin Upton Jr., however, had himself quite a game.
Leading off the bottom of the first inning, Upton hit a deep drive to center, clearing the wall for a solo home run. It was measured to be 465 feet by MLB's Statcast, which is the longest in Padres history for the Statcast era.
But he wasn't done there.
In the top of the second, J.J. Hardy hit a shot to center where Upton does his defensive work. He robbed the would-be home run by reaching over the wall and pulling it back before firing back to first base to get the double play.
His effort may not have been enough to help the Padres win, but his performance didn't go unnoticed.
