McClendon commends 'throwback' style of Mariners' Seager
Third baseman Kyle Seager of the Seattle Mariners was named a recipient of the Heart & Hustle Award, handed out by the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association on Tuesday - the second straight year Seager has taken home the honor.
When reached for comment prior to the Mariners' game with the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night, his manager Lloyd McClendon had nothing but great things to say about the 27-year-old.
Said McClendon to Shannon Drayer of ESPN Seattle: "He's a throwback. He's an old-school type of player. He comes every day, he gets dirty and he leaves it all out on the field. He tries to get better every day. He comes to beat the other team, he's a great teammate. He epitomizes everything that award is all about."
McClendon added that, 'I wish I had more' players like Seager, which just about sounds like the most perfect compliment a manager can pay a player.
