After the devastating news broke Sunday that Jose Fernandez died early that morning in a boating accident at the age of 24, the Miami Marlins cancelled Sunday's game against the Braves. The team held a press conference where manager Don Mattingly broke down while speaking about the joy Fernandez brought to the club, and on the field the Marlins displayed Fernandez's name and number on the big screen and placed his hat and number on the mound.
Marlins teammate Dee Gordon spent a few moments at the pitching mound Sunday, while outside the ballpark fans left flowers for Hernandez.

Teams across the league observed moments of silence in Fernandez's honor before playing.
