LA Angels Shane Robinson One Of Many In Left Field.
The LA Angels had many people attempt to fill the gap in left field, but no one seemed to be able to get a leg up on anyone. Shane Robinson showed some promise at times, but showed he needs to mature more before being an option.
Shane Robinson was signed by the LA Angels last Spring just as the team broke camp for Anaheim. The hope for Robinson was for him to be a possible candidate to be a utility outfielder.
Robinson was brought up to the majors for the first time in the beginning of May when both Daniel Nava and Craig Gentry (the Angels platoon at the beginning of the 2016 season) landed on the disabled list. Like most of the candidates for the left field position, Robinson showed good skills defensively, but his offense was lacking.

Robinson hit .215 in his first stint with the Angels hitting one home run and driving in seven runs. However, he sprained his right ankle which landed him on the disabled in just before the all-star break. When he was called back up in late July, Robinson went one for 14 before going on the disable list again.

Finally on September 7th Robinson was called back up to Anaheim for good and he played 15 games in his return and hit .133 for that period lowering his season average to .173. Unlike most of the other players the Angels used in left field, Robinson has had over 400 games of experience in the majors as played with Minnesota and St. Louis since 2009.
Due to his multiple stints on the disable list, I think we have not seen all that Shane Robinson can do. I think he deserves a chance to prove himself in Spring Training in 2017. Is Shane Robinson the long-term solution in left field, I highly doubt it. However as I stated before he could be valuable as a utility outfielder in 2017 as he can play all three spots. We will see if the Angels agree with my thinking.
