Jose Fernandez could only laugh after whiffing badly on this baffling pitch
Thursday night's game between the Miami Marlins and Los Angeles Dodgers featured a marquee matchup between two of the best young pitchers in the game. Kenta Maeda might not be young in age like Jose Fernandez, but he's short on experience with this being his first season in MLB.
That didn't stop him from baffling Fernandez with his filthy stuff, though. Madea threw an 80-mph offspeed pitch to Fernandez in the fifth inning that left the young gun shaking his head in disbelief.
Fernandez grounded out to short on the next pitch, but he was still in shock over his big swing-and-miss.
In his first season in the bigs, Maeda has been dominant. He boasts a 3-1 record with a 1.41 ERA and 28 strikeouts. Incredibly, those numbers are after allowing four runs to the Marlins on Thursday night.
