The Cleveland Indians have a 2-0 lead over the Boston Red Sox in their American League Division Series, beating Boston's top two starters (Rick Porcello and David Price) in the process. But the series has now moved to Boston for Games 3 and 4, and based on playoff acumen alone the Red Sox can't be counted out yet.
Game 3 was scheduled for Sunday afternoon, but rainy weather in Boston caused the game to be postponed.
Scheduled starters Clay Buchholz for Boston and Josh Tomlin for Cleveland will now simply be pushed back a day, with Game 4 (if necessary) slated to be played on Tuesday. But there is an impact on the pitching rotations for the series beyond Monday's re-scheduled game.
Indians' starter Trevor Bauer will now be able to pitch on regular rest in Game 4, and Porcello would be able to do the same if Red Sox manager John Farrell wants to go with him over Eduardo Rodriguez in another elimination game on Tuesday.
The Indians would surely like to close out this series as soon as possible, since the pressure will mount on them if the Red Sox are able to turn momentum by winning one or two games. Sunday's postponement shouldn't give either team a decided advantage, besides an extra day of rest for anyone that might be dealing with a physical issue.
On that note, the Indians have a faint chance to get Danny Salazar back from a forearm injury in time for a potential ALCS to help their injury-thinned starting rotation. But if they can't eliminate the Red Sox, Salazar's status obviously becomes a moot point.
