Indians promote prospect Bradley Zimmer to Double-A Akron
Indians outfield prospect Bradley Zimmer was a part of this week's All-Star festivities, as he was the starting center fielder for the Futures Game.
But instead or returning to his team in Class-A Lynchburg, Zimmer found out Monday night that he had been promoted to Double-A Akron.
The 22-year-old Zimmer was drafted by the Indians with their No. 1 pick in the 2014 draft. He began the season with Lynchburg and has hit .305 with 16 doubles, three triples, 10 homers and 38 RBI in 77 games with the Hillcats. He was 32-for-37 in stolen base attempts, scored 59 runs and posted a .889 OPS.
The Indians feel that Zimmer has the tools to remain a top center fielder as he progresses through the minors.
He does a lot of things well," said Ross Atkins (via Cleveland.com), Indians vice president of player personnel. "He's a powerful athlete. He's really talented in all phases of the game. Probably the best thing he does is compete."
