Heyward thankful Russell offered No. 22 jersey after signing with Cubs

With the Chicago Cubs' addition of Jason Heyward signing an eight-year, $184 million contract earlier in the week came the question 'will Addison Russell give up his No. 22 jersey for his new teammate?'
Russell immediately addressed the 'issue' stating he was perfectly fine with giving up his number for the good of the team and as a friendly gesture to his new teammate.
Heyward took notice to Russell's gesture and assured him he would make it up to him.
"Very classy on his part, to mention that and say winning is the most important thing," Heyward said during Tuesday's introductory news conference. "I'll send him an IOU and we'll agree to terms on something that I can do for him."
For Heyward, his No. 22 he's worn his entire big-league career is more than just a number, it's a tribute to his high school teammate, Andrew Wilmot, who was killed in a car accident in 2006.
“It's awesome," Heyward said about Russell's gesture to let him have No. 22 with the Cubs. “The number is something that is very special to me and a lot of people."
Even though I might have to change my number I'm perfectly okay with that. I just wanna help fly that #W #goodguys
