Halos prospect Sean Newcomb named to Futures Game roster

Sean Newcomb is one of the Los Angeles Angels' most promising prospects, and he was recognized as such by being named to the All-Star Futures Game roster on Thursday.
The 22-year-old, whom the Halos selected with the No. 15 pick in last year's MLB Draft, has spent this season at both levels of Class-A ball, where he's excelled.
As Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com detailed, Newcomb has posted a 2.61 ERA and averaging 11.8 strikeouts per nine innings pitched this season.
Angels director of player development Bobby Scales told Gonzalez of Newcomb's velocity that, "He throws 95 [mph] and it looks like he's playing catch" - so clearly the Angels think pretty highly of their first-round pick.
Gonzalez also notes that the young lefty's trajectory has him on track to make it to the big leagues around 2017, due to his needing more seasoning in the minor leagues.
The All-Star Futures Game is set for Sunday, July 12 at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati as part of MLB's All-Star Week festivities.
