Giants pitcher Chris Heston turns in historic performance

The pitching performance which Chris Heston turned in on Tuesday night was special. Although he did give up one run, Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News points out that since last season, only four pitchers have thrown complete games while striking out 10 batters and allowing two hits or fewer while allowing no walks. Those pitchers are Josh Tomlin, Madison Bumgarner, Clayton Kershaw and now Chris Heston.
Baggarly goes back 25 years and finds a mostly illustrious list of pitchers who have done the same (while throwing 111 pitches or fewer). The list includes James Shields, Matt Cain, Cliff Lee, Roy Halladay, Pedro Martinez and Curt Schilling (twice).
Making the performance even more impressive is the fact that Heston pitched so well against the American League West-leading Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park which is traditionally a hitter-friendly field.
