Giants not planning on six-man rotation when Peavy, Cain return

Giants manager Bruce Bochy does not plan on going with a six-man rotation when Jake Peavy and Matt Cain return from their rehabs, according to Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News. Madison Bumgarner is certainly not going to the bullpen and Chris Heston, the rookie who recently threw a no-hitter and was supposed to just be a temporary starter, is probably not either. That means that among Tim Lincecum, Tim Hudson and Ryan Vogelsong, one or two of them might be relegated.
According to Baggarly, one of the reasons Bochy might not want to add a man to the rotation is because it would mean fewer starts from Madison Bumgarner. He quotes Bochy on another reason:
“The extra ‘pen guy is pretty important right now, I think.”
Earlier this season, it was becoming apparent that the Giants’s bullpen was being stretched. Baggarly points out that only Bumgarner is on pace to throw over 200 innings.
