Giants' McGehee helpful toward Duffy despite losing job to him

Even before Matt Duffy took over for him at third base, Casey McGehee has been nothing but hepful to the rookie. According to Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News, one of the first things that McGehee did after he was designated for assignment by the Giants, was tell Duffy not to feel any remorse and gave him his phone number in case wanted any advice. Baggarly quotes Duffy on his reaction to the gesture:
“It could’ve been easy for him to feel some kind of animosity towards me,” Duffy said. “It speaks to the kind of person he is.”
This wasn’t the first time this season that McGehee has gone out of his way to make Duffy feel at home. Baggarly shared this tidbit:
Almost every day this season, beginning in the spring, Duffy took ground balls at third base. Almost every day, Casey McGehee would join him and offer advice.
You can say the student has surpassed the teacher.
