Giants' Duffy reflects on McGehee's mentorship

Published Jun. 5, 2015 3:59 a.m. ET

It’s been nearly two weeks now since rookie Matt Duffy took over at third base for the Giants with veteran Casey McGehee going down to Triple A. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, McGehee’s mentorship of Duffy at third base was “almost a daily thing.” McGehee’s helpful hints and tips weren’t limited to practice, but even happened during games:

“Sometimes with hitters, if (bench coach Ron) Wotus didn’t see something, Casey whistled at me to take another half step,” Duffy said.

According to the Chronicle, Duffy says he would be fine if McGehee were called back up and took back third.

Since playing with Triple-A Sacramento, McGehee is hitting .357 in 10 games and even has a seven-game hit streak. Meanwhile, Duffy is batting .200 in 11 games.
