Gattis happy to be healthy - and hitting - for Astros
Prior to the 2015 season, Evan Gattis' career high in games played was 108 (set in 2014 with the Atlanta Braves).
However, he's managed to stay mostly healthy in his first year with the Houston Astros, as Wednesday afternoon's win over the New York Yankees was his 121st game of the year.
He celebrated his health by cracking two more home runs in the Astros' 6-2 win, and the second blast tied his career-high (set last year).
After the game, Gattis spoke with Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle regarding his healthy and productive season - and it's come as a huge relief: “Definitely noticed it, definitely just happy to be healthy at this point," Gattis told Drellich. "Two years ago, it was an oblique, and then last year it was a bulging disc in my back and then the kidney problems at the end. So I’m just happy to be healthy at this point.”
Gattis' injury and health history may have prevented him from fully reaching his potential in part-time duties with the Braves, but he's currently relishing the experience of being on the field every day for a first-place club in a pennant race.
