More from Around the Foghorn
Torres won the Willie Mac Award as the most inspirational Giant in 2010 and his play and passion and love for the game was infectious. When the Giants traded Torres in 2011, Peter Hartlaub wrote that the Giants were losing the “nicest guy on the planet.” So many people who have shared memories of him as a Giant, speak to his heart and his genuine love for people.
To see a former Giant have to go through something like this reminds us all that the teams we support are more than just cheering their play on the field, but also supporting them during times like today.
Our thoughts are with Andres and his children today as so many share their stories of Torres and the mark he left on the Giants and the organization.
When I met Andres Torres in 2011, he didn’t shake my hand. Instead, he gave me a big hug. Always so much love in his heart. #RipSoannie
