There's exclusive company, and then there's exclusive company.

On Sept. 17, 2004, San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds became only the third player in major-league history to reach the 700-homer plateau.

The historic blast came off San Diego Padres right-hander Jake Peavy in the third inning of the Giants' 4-1 win at AT&T Park.

Bonds next would set his sights on Babe Ruth (714) and then Hank Aaron (755) --€“ and would eventually pass both en route to crushing 762 homers before ending his career as the all-time home run king after the 2007 season.

One hurdle he hasn't cleared, however, is the Hall of Fame election process. Bonds, whose accomplishments and reputation have been clouded by PED accusations, has hovered between 34.7 percent and 36.8 percent of the necessary 75 percent needed for induction in his three years on the ballot.
