Cardinals' Holliday back on DL with same quad injury
The St. Louis Cardinals again placed their left-fielder Matt Holliday on the disabled list after he reinjured his right quad Wednesday night. It's the same injury that sidelined him for 31 games - from June 9 to July 16 - earlier this year.
The Cardinals went 18-13 in his absence, good for a .581 winning percentage, but not quite the .663 they've put up overall this year.
The 35-year-old is slashing .290/.409/.420 this season with just four homers and 31 RBI for the first-place Cardinals.
In a corresponding move, the Cardinals recalled infielder Greg Garcia from Triple-A Memphis and designated first baseman Dan Johnson for assignment to make room for newly acquired outfielder and first baseman Brandon Moss, whom they traded for early Thursday morning.
It is not known how long Holliday will be out.
