Braves' Pierzynski strikes out in bid to sell bounced pitch as strike
A.J. Pierzynski played a leading role in the Atlanta Braves' dramatic comeback victory over the San Francisco Giants on Monday night, belting a tying two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning.
But when it comes to an acting career, Pierzynski shouldn't consider quitting his day job anytime soon.
The veteran catcher attempted to steal a pitch behind the plate in the eighth inning, trying to con umpire Dan Iassogna into calling a strike on a ball that bounced several feet in front of the plate.
Pierzynski snatched pitcher David Aardsma's hard one-hopper, framing the ball and waiting for a call before finally looking over his left shoulder as if to ask Iassogna: "Well??"
Pierzynski didn't win his case, but the Braves, who trailed 6-0 after the fourth inning, emerged victorious when rookie Adonis Garcia clubbed a walk-off homer in the 12th inning.
