Braves optimistic Freddie Freeman will return by end of July
If all go as the Atlanta Braves hope it does, the team will receive a big boost by the end of the month.
Assistant general manager John Coppolella told reporters Wednesday that "there is still a chance Freeman will be activated from the disabled list next week after the All-Star break," per MLB.com, and Freeman is expected to rejoin the team before August.
The 25-year-old first baseman, who has been sidelined with a bone bruise in his right wrist, has still yet to be cleared for physical activities, and will need to participate in a rehab stint prior to being ready to join the Braves again.
Freeman was originally expected to only miss a few games with his wrist injury, but the healing process in his wrist has been drawn out, even with the help of plasma-rich platelet and cortisone injections.
The power-hitting first baseman last played for the Braves on June 17.
