Astros' Springer relieved to resume baseball activities

The Houston Astros have had to make do without dynamic outfielder George Springer since early July as he dealt with a fractured right wrist, but he's getting closer to returning to action.

On Friday, Springer was cleared for baseball activities by the Astros' medical staff - a development that came as a great relief for the 25-year-old (as he told Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle): “I didn’t really know what to do, to be honest with you. I prepared myself for no and yes. I got told yes and it was just kind of a relief. It’s obviously been hard these last six weeks to not be able to play out there with these guys. I’m almost there.”

As there are still some hurdles left to be conquered by Springer, it's unclear when he'll be able to make his return to the lineup: “There’s a bunch of stuff I have to do first and a bunch of tests I have to pass. We’ll obviously take it one slow day at a time."

Springer's re-activation may not be imminent just yet, but this update is obviously quite a good one for the Astros as they continue to fight for the AL West title down the stretch.
