Angels' Winter Meetings buzz: Lawrie on radar, Wilson being shopped?

Published Dec. 8, 2015 1:02 p.m. ET

With new GM Billy Eppler at his first Winter Meetings with his new organization, the Los Angeles Angels are looking to make some moves. The Halos have a set goal of finding a full-time left fielder, but that's not all they're apparently interested in doing.

On Monday, the first day of the Winter Meetings, word circulated that the Angels spoke with the Oakland Athletics regarding infielder Brett Lawrie. Jeff Fletcher of the O.C. Register opined that the Angels could presumably have the pieces necessary to make a deal with Oakland for Lawrie, but a few hours later Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle effectively quashed the rumor with this tweet:

In addition to talk of Lawrie potentially being on their radar, the Angels are also apparently making it known that they are willing to move lefty C.J. Wilson to presumably free up money with which they could address some of their other needs. As passed along by Scott Miller of Bleacher Report:

Obviously, the market for Wilson - whose 2015 season ended early due to elective elbow surgery - would probably only be clubs willing to take on much of the $20 million he's owed for 2016.

The Angels are almost assuredly going to make some moves in the coming days/weeks, but whether either of them would involve Lawrie and/or Wilson remains to be seen.
