Angels lefty Tyler Skaggs battled the comeback road all season long. After an MRI scare last week, he feels “pretty good” and is ready to pitch again.

The Angels will remain hesitant to put Tyler Skaggs back on the mound following his MRI scare last week. There’s not a realistic reason to start him this season. However, Skaggs is a player and he wants to play.

On Tuesday, Skaggs tested the mild flexor-pronator strain in his throwing arm by playing catch from 90 feet. Skaggs said the elbow feels great and he’s ready to play. However, he’ll play catch from 120 feet today before a start date is determined.

I would say Skaggs shouldn’t start for the remainder of the season, you don’t want to see him over-do it and reinjure his already repaired elbow. Mike Scioscia hasn’t set a timetable for Skaggs, it’s likely he’ll pitch in the instructional league and not the majors.

“If it does feel good, I’ll hopefully go out there and pitch one of the last days [of the season], You can always go to the instructional league and get some innings in. I wouldn’t like to, but if it needs to be done, I’m down for whatever.” – Tyler Skaggs

I can’t blame Skaggs, i would still exercise caution.  If Sosh allowed Skaggs to pitch another game this season and he ended up getting hurt, needing Tommy John surgery, the outrage would be at an all time high.

Obviously, the Angels will remain cautious with Skaggs. They’ve lost so many pitchers to injury this season and losing another to a long-term injury would be catastrophic to this team. The Angels can’t afford another injury to the pitching staff. Give Alex Meyer some more practice or Ricky Nolasco, these guys need practice.

I assume Skaggs will not pitch in the majors again this season. The risk is just way too high and there is no reward. The season is officially over in 11 games, there’s no reason to risk an injury.
