Alcides Escobar's inside-the-park HR ball nets $19K at auction

The ball Alcides Escobar laced into the outfield for an inside-the-park home run during Game 1 of the World Series has sold on the MLB’s auction website for a whopping $19,200, reports Darren Rovell.
Escobar’s unconventional round-tripper during the first inning of the Kansas City Royals’ 5-4, extra innings victory over the New York Mets was the first inside-the-park home run in a World Series game since 1929.
The ball, authenticated by Major League Baseball, was up for sale for eight days on the site and received 84 bids before the auction closed Wednesday night.
Several other items from the World Series have both been sold and also remain up for auction.
Rovell reports the highest bid ever on the league’s site for a game-used baseball was the $28,890 paid for the ball used on the first pitch of Game 7 during last year’s World Series. Another high-priced ball was the one put in play to record the final out of Derek Jeter’s illustrious MLB career. That sold for $24,000.
