A.M. Wahoo's: Playoff baseball returns to Cleveland
The Cleveland Indians will be hosting a playoff game for the first time since 2013 today when the Boston Red Sox come to town for Game 1 of the ALDS.
The Toronto Blue Jays and San Francisco Giants have done a great job to signal the beginning of the MLB playoffs, and it is now the Cleveland Indians’ turn to provide fans with some October excitement.
The Indians are set to take on the Boston Red Sox tonight, the same team that eliminated the Indians from a seemingly magical postseason run in 2007. The teams are now filled with different players, but the fans still remember.
Trevor Bauer is set to take the mound for the Indians tonight, going up against Rick Porcello of the Red Sox. Corey Kluber will take on David Price in Friday’s Game 2.
While the Red Sox may have a roster filled with more high-profile players, (look at the salary difference between the Game 1 starters), the Indians have a roster filled with players who were able to win the AL Central and get home-field advantage over the Red Sox in this series.
Jose Ramirez and Jason Kipnis may not be major names to people living outside of Cleveland, but they sure can be after taking on the Red Sox in the national spotlight. The same goes for the likes of Tyler Naquin, Brandon Guyer and Carlos Santana, who all had some memorable moments in 2016.
The time right before the playoffs often provides the most excitement. Just look at how amped the crowd was in New York last night for the game between the Mets and the Giants. The same atmosphere should be present tonight at Progressive Field, at least until anything goes right for the Red Sox.
